CAM's newest mission is in the Vakaga
region of north eastern Central African Republic. The people of Vakaga,
a region which borders southern Chad and southern Darfur in Sudan,
have suffered enormously due to internal and cross border conflicts.
In 2006 most of the population fled following clashes between government
forces and rebel militias. Many innocent people were killed, rape
and abuse of women and children was widespread, looting was indiscriminate
and many homes, crops and public facilities were burned.
