A view of the historic city of Belqeis. It is, in fact, the remains of the ancient Esfarayen, located three kilometers southwest of the current Esfarayen, North Khorasan province. There are two different accounts regarding the city, one attributing it to the pre-Islamic era and the other to the Safavid Dynasty.
