Kumamoto Castle, one of the three greatest castles in Japan, was built by Kiyomasa Kato made the most of his much war experience, and took 7 years(1601-1607) to completion. At its prime, the Castle had about 120 wells, 49 turrets, 18 turret gates and 29 castle gates with a circumference of 5.3 km.
