| Shirvan (Azerbaijani: Şirvan, prior to 1938 Zubovka, from 1938 to 2008, Ali Bayramli, Azerbaijani: Əli Bayramlı, and otherwise transcribed as Ali Bairamly, Ali-Bairamli, Ali-Bayramli, Ali-Bayramly, Äli Bayramlı, Ali Bajramli, Äli Bayramli, and Aly-Bayramly; also formerly, Arab Shakhverdi, Arab-Shakhberdy, Arab-Shakhverdy) is a city in Azerbaijan, located on the Kura River. Its former name, Ali Bayramli, was to honor Ali Bayramov; the city was renamed to Shirvan by the decision of the Parliament of Azerbaijan on April 25, 2008. The city forms one of the administrative divisions of Azerbaijan. |
