Online travel agency MakeMyTrip announced a new domestic vacation plan. Under the plan titled 'Domestic Holiday Plus', tourists can fly to the destination of their choice by paying the AC II class trainfare.Commenting on the scheme, Amit Saberwal, vice-president, Business Development, MakeMyTrip said, "Maharashtra's total travel and tourism market accounts for Rs 2800 crore. Around 35 per cent of the market share of this figure is contributed by cities like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and Aurangabad."
The domestic group departures launched by MakeMyTrip not only provide value at the best price but also have no hidden costs and include AC transportation throughout the holiday, Saberwal told DNA.
Elaborating on Maharashtra's significance, Saberwal added, "Western India is a key area of focus for us. The region contributes 40 per cent to the 'holidays' category for MakeMyTrip, of which 25 per cent is contributed by Maharashtra."
Explaining how the 'pay for train fare and fly' scheme becomes feasible for the company, Saberwal said MakeMyTrip has a good standing with airlines and it helps them translate that into reduced fares.
"All our schemes are in the price range of Rs 16000 and 20000. The last date for booking these plans is March 22. We'll be organising holidays to Kerala, Kashmir, Rajasthan, the North-east, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand," he said.
