Travel News By ABC Online

A major tourism road in Tasmania's north-west has again been closed because of the bushfire in the area.

The Western Explorer Road was closed on Monday last week after a fire broke out in part of the Tarkine wilderness near Savage River.

The fire burned on both sides of the road for much of last week, but the blaze is almost out now, and the road was re-opened yesterday afternoon.

Contractors have examined the road, and say fallen trees and burnt guideposts and signs have made it potentially dangerous for driving.

The Infrastructure Department says there will be a detailed inspection over the next few days, and the road will be re-opened as soon as possible.
