Tourism NSW sponsors travel award
Tourism NSW has for the first time sponsored the ‘Best Tourism or Travel’ award in the 14th Annual Australian Interactive Media Industry Association Awards (AIMIA).
The Minister for Tourism, Matt Brown has encouraged people to enter the awards which rewards innovation in interactive media and said that the internet is now the main tool for people to plan and book their holidays.
“I want to support the continued growth and development of digital content in the NSW tourism industry,” he said.
According to Tourism NSW, 58 per cent of international travellers used the internet before visiting Australia; this figure is up from 22 per cent in 2003.
In response, Tourism NSW created 17 international market versions of its website was produced in eight unique languages with more enhancements to follow.
Some of the new features will include new multi-media content such as blogs, podcasts and syndicated content from partners and affiliates.
Entries closed November 9 and the winners will be announced in March 2008. Organisations who are involved in tourism businesses, marketing of destinations, websites, advertising, and mobile phone marketing and social networking are encouraged to enter.
