Police are investigating an attack on a Japanese tourist in Sydney's Kings Cross.

The 34-year-old woman told police she was walking through Sydney's inner east about 10:00pm AEDT when she was approached by a man.

It is alleged she was then taken to an unknown location and assaulted.

Police are hoping to speak to a taxi driver and two male passengers who stopped to help the woman.
