Police believe a woman who died in the Kalbarri gorges in the Mid West suffered extreme heat exhaustion.

The 54-year-old British tourist collapsed while she and her partner were walking through the gorges yesterday.

The woman's partner is in good health.

Kalbarri Sergeant Michael Tite says it appears the couple did not take enough water with them.

"Rough terrain out there and very hot, we worked out that the female had collapsed, the 54-year-old English tourist had collapsed while walking the loop walk trail, and possibly become a little bit disorientated as they were off track a little bit," he said.
