Tourist guides in Cameroon have come together to create a trade union with the objective of defending their interest and to bring order to the profession.

The tourist guides met in their first general assembly Tuesday in Yaoundé where they came up with rules and regulations governing the association. An executive bureau was elected to man the affairs of the syndicate upon its creation.

The reorganization of the activities of tourist guide in Cameroon is considered important for they are indispensable in the growth of the tourism in any country.

They are trained to receive tourists, take them to various attractive places and also give clarification on the significance of the sites they visit; the image of any destination depends on the tourist guides, for any mistake would damage the tourism chain.

During the general assembly of the tourist guides, they talked about different possibilities for refresher courses in order to improve on their communication skills.

Present at the meeting was the secretary general in the ministry of Tourism, Angeline Florence Ngomo, who hailed the initiative to reorganize the activities of tourist guides by the making them more professional. The SG promised to support the initiatives of the new trade union.
