Spending by foreign visitors to Spain rose 5.4% to €2,482 million last month compared to January 2007 according to statistics published today by the Institute of Tourism Studies.
Average spending per tourist rose 4% to €890 with each tourist spending an average of €94 per day.
66.8% of total spending was on hotel accommodation and 70% of all visitors came as part of a package deal.
While more than 60% of total spend was by tourists from Germany, the UK, France and Scandinavia, four regions accounted for more than 70% of the total with the Canary Islands (34.4%) leading the way followed by Cataluña, Andalucía and Madrid.
