Travel News By The Age,

Emergency rescue services were today called to help winch the body of a tourist off Brampton Island, in north Queensland, after the man collapsed and died during an early morning walk.

The RACQ-CQ Rescue service was called after the 62-year-old man from Mt Tamborine, south of Brisbane, collapsed just before 8am (AEST) today while visiting the picturesque Whitsundays island.

The man and his wife had just reached the island lookout after a steep trek up a two-kilometre rainforest track when he collapsed.

The rescue helicopter winched a medical crew down to the man who had suffered a heart attack but they were unable to revive him.

His body was flown to Mackay Base Hospital, while his distressed wife was flown off the island to Mackay by a resort helicopter.
